This song from Cedarmont Kids: O Be Careful Little Eyes. As you know it's a children's song that alerts attention to four things and how we use them.
The four things are:
O be careful little eyes what you see
O be careful little ears what you hear
O be careful little feet where you go
O be careful little mouth what you say This song is a gentle warning of the things that we have to be aware of in our Christian journey. And honestly, I don’t believe that this children’s song is totally meant just for children. Seeing that when we are “born again” we are now children in Christ. Galatians 3:26 - For ye are all children of God by faith in Christ Jesus And maybe this is something that needs to be reminded to all of us as a part of our new lifestyle. Our eyes, ears, feet, and mouths should be now weary of what is around us; learning to avoid things that are against us and focusing on the examples and instructions of Jesus. And even with its warning-like advice, it gives a loving reminder of why we should ‘be careful’.
There's a Father up above
And He's looking down in love
So, be careful…..little eyes, ears, feet, and mouths.
While much could be said about each body part mentioned in the song, according to scripture there is one part that’s the most dangerous of them all. One of these four is talked about more in the Bible. And ironically this is the most used part of the body, as well as the most abused.
Oh Be Careful Little Mouths What You Say
Proverbs 18:21 - Death and Life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Every now and then this scripture is brought up somewhere. Unfortunately, like so many other popular scriptures, this verse is moreso quoted than acted upon. Most of us don’t really understand how powerful words can be, how it affects others, and our own lives. Yet we will instantly use our mouths to spit out whatever we want, based on our emotions at that time, regardless of any consequences. We have been trained to think that God is ok with how we live, and how we use our mouths. “God ain’t finished with me yet.” “God knows my heart.” or instead say things like “God knows this is who I am.” And every one of these statements are true, but we use them as an excuse to continue in something that God wants us away from.
1 Peter 3:10 - For whosoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit(lies).
What we say is so serious to God that the Bible tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue. Lying is even one of THE ten commandments!! Out of all the other major things we should and shouldn’t do mentioned in the Ten Commandments in the book of Exodus, Honor our parents, do not worship other Gods, do not commit adultery, TWO of these commandments has to do with what we say: do not use the Lord’s name is vain, and do not bear false witness against others (lie/gossip). The Bible constantly tells us about our mouths. We believe in how serious God’s Word is, but do we take God’s Word seriously?
